Dumbsday! is the eightieth comic issue, released on 24 August, 2016 [1] in the US.
The Story
When President Nixon discovers that the population is getting too smart to re-elect him again, he gets Dr. Wernstrom to create a machine that will make everyone stupider until Election Day. However, the Dumbsday device affects everyone but Fry, making him “the smartest man in the world.”
Additional Info
Continuity
- Nixon's head first became Earth president in "A Head in the Polls" in the year 3000 and has continued to use that loophole to be re-elected every four years, most recently in "Decision 3012".
- Everyone on Earth, excluding Fry, also suffered from reduced intelligence caused by Brainspawn in "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid". How Wernstrom got his hands on a baby one is unclear.
- Wernstrom was previously misidentified as "Wormstorm" in "How to Secede Without Really Trying".
Allusions
- Bernie Burnman is a cross between Marvel's Human Torch and American politician Bernie Sanders.
